THE MET
The Met gala is arguabley one of the most impressive fashion event of the year and this years met gala was no expection. The theme gilded glamour was no doubt to bring in some amazing dresses, covered in lace trim and tight corsets. Vougues inspiration for this theme was to “embody the grandeur-and perhaps the dichotomy-of Gilded Age New York. The period, which stretched from 1870 to 1890 (Mark Twain is credited with coining the term in 1873), was one of unprecedented prosperity, cultural change, and industrialization, when both skyscrapers and fortunes seemingly arose overnight.” This theme was taken into account by so more than others.
However one the most stand out looks was by no other than Blake Livey, Blake’s oufits are always above and beyond and this years oufit was no exception. She described her dres as a homage to New York City. The dress itself was inspired by the staute of liberty, the colour change from a light copper to a teal was to represent oxidation. The embroidery on the train of the dress, is a replica of the painting on the roof on grand central sation. The corest top was based to deatling form the empire state building, Blake pulled a Lady Gaga on this red crapet by udoing part of her dress to revel the teal section. She also sported a crown, with seven spikes which the statue of liberty shares representing the seven seas and the seven continets and the unity of the world. This dress was a masterpiece by Atelier Versace and not their only statement that night.
However she was not the only amazing outfit of the night, one of my personal favriotes of the night was laura harriers gown, a sleek glamorus black and sliver ballgown with fine metal deatiling, the dress was paired with blakc velvet gloves and pearl jewelry. “I wanted to feel very feminine and romantic by leaning into that age and era while still keeping it modern and cool," Harrier told Vanity Fair, explaining that she wanted to reference the late 1800s in her look without having it look like a costume. Personally think she achieved this glamours look very well, but the most shocking thing about this look is it’s desinger. The outfit was desinged by H&M the fast fashion brand anf not something usally paired with galmorus, high end gowns however this dress speaks diffrently. Therefore I think this was one of the best dressed guests.
But we cannot talk about the MET ans not comment of the Kardashions, this family has always been know for controvesry and this night was no diffrent. From Kim too kendenal these outfits where surprising. Kendell wore a black dress by Prada, combining a traditional ruched pattern with some recent fashion and beauty trends. The piece included a sheer fishnet bodice with floral detailing, worn over a full black skirt with ruched decoration evoking the 1900s, and maybe the longest train of the night. However the most shocking part of this outfit was the bleched eyebrows to enhace the gothic look, But I personally think they take away from the look, however the dress it’s self what impressive and it presented the theme.
The most controversial outfit of the night has to be, Kim Kardashion in the 1950s Marilyn Monroe dress which she wore to sing happy birthday to the President of the United States John F Kennedy. Kim underwent a massive transitions to make this outfit, she dyed her hair for 14 hours straight to achieve the striking blonde look. Based on a sketch by Bob Mackie for the French-born Hollywood costume designer Jean-Louis, the dress caused a stir when the actress wore it to serenade President John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday in 1962. I personally believe the dress is stunning however it is a big piece of fashion history and therefore I think this dress should have stayed on display and not been worn.
Overall this was a fantastic night of fashion and fame, and the galmour on display was no less fastinating than any year before. And after the year the world has has the Met gala was a much needed escape from reality. And one thing became very clear, Anna Winter clearly knows how to throw an amazing gala.
