Sustainable Fashion - A Quick Guide

What is sustainable fashion?
Sustainable fashion is the designing, sourcing, manufacturing, and distributing of clothes in environmentally friendly ways. Many people don’t consider or factor in their shopping sprees when thinking about how environmentally friendly they are, or much waste they produce, but the fashion industry is (unfortunately) one of the most damaging factors for the climate. Currently, the fashion industry is responsible for producing 2-4% of the world’s manmade greenhouse gas emissions. This is per year! Guess how much water is used to produce that one measly t-shirt you own. 713 gallons. 2,700 liters. 2.7 tons.
Lots of todays fashion industry in built on designing and creating clothes that are meant to be consumed quickly at cheap prices to meet temporary fashion trends. Cheap prices and quick consumption tends to also mean poor quality clothing. This paints them as disposable items where they only wear them a few times before tossing them out and buying the next trendiest item of clothing.

It’s also important to remember that sustainble clothing is an investment as they last so long and tend to be timeless as well as amazing quality. And don’t forget that you’re helping the planet too!
