Broke New York

17/09/2023

Some say it is hard to find a sense of community in New York because everyone is preoccupied with there own lives and to an extent I agree, and it many ways this is what makes it akin to London. However I think there are pockets of communities within this city wether it is a book club or a protest there is always something to do. This week I found my new favourite place in NY it is Hudson River Parks it runs alongside the Hudson river and has stunning views across the city. Personally I enjoying running and this is a easy place for a run and the park stretches four miles along the west side of Manhattan, from the northern boundary of Battery Park City in Tribeca to W 59 St. in Hell's Kitchen. The park is considerably less busy than central park and as I mentioned has great views. This free activity is similar to running along the Thames in London.

This week was also NYFW (New York fashion week), there was a lot of pop up events and those lucky enough to get tickets there where some amazing shows. I attended the kate spade pop up on the High- line and I explored the range of fashion events happening in the meatpacking district. We will talk more about the stunning outfits on display this year in a different post. This week New York has begun to feel more like home a place of comfort to some event this city feels a buzz and while the pricing does still shock me I am finding ways to cut costs including walking everywhere and i do mean everywhere. I now consider a 45 minute walk very doable and 20 minutes is a breeze. One thing that I am very sure of is that this is no normal college experience, college football games replaced with fashion week and frat boys replaced with upcoming fashion designers.

The kate spade event was set perfectly among the scenery of the High line  the contrast of kate spade green and the trees worked cohesively and overall I thought it was a good event. The pop up also involved free samples and a free drink however the que to get in was long. Kate spade premiered there new collection and although I could not attended the show itself I have researched the collection. The collection features vibrant colours and boxy blazers as well as a new collection of Kate Spade bags. Overall I liked the collection and thought it reflected a 2000s reminiscent style playing into geometric patterns and bold colours. The designers saying "The Fall 2023 narrative evokes the universal feeling of joy that the season brings, a renewed sense of energy. It's like a blank canvas, the beginning of something new," said Mora and Lyu.
