2022 Fashion Rundown
2022 has been a big year for fashion and people alike. This year we have said goodbye to some of greatest designers, Vivienne Westwood, Thierry Mugler and Fred Segal these are remarkable designers who's names will live on fashion history.
2022 has seen the rise of new trends and the collapse of others. This years most common trends where, Tailoring, Biker Boots, long skirts and distressed fashion. Now whether you love or hate trends there is no denying the power of them take over runway and high street one trend that I have found captivating is sheer material. Big name brands all over world have started to include sheer pieces into their collections, for example the Alexander McQueen maxi skirt with sheer paneling or this Fendi chiffon slip dress. I think this is an interesting trend because I think it is tied to people being more real and honest instead of glamourising and airbrushing, what clearly way to be honest than hiding nothing at all. The theme in individuality has been big this year and I hope this moment keeps growing because that is what fashion is about, expressing yourself. Biker boots this year have been everywhere possibly because it has been a cold year but mainly because they go with everything and are far more durable than heels, personally I hope this trend sticks around.
However this year has also been the downfall to other trends for example unsustainable clothes. Buyers are beginning to understand the impact of fast fashion and unsustainable merchandise and make changes to the way they shop. Personally I had stopped buying highstreet whenever possible and prefer to shop from either, charity shops, vintage or local boutiques as I find they are not only sustainable but better for unique pieces. Though it is understandable that not everyone has the luxury to do this I still firmly believe even making small changes like donating old clothes instead of binning them will make a difference. Another trend which we said goodbye too in 2022 was denim on denim looks. I am not a big fan of these personally as I find them overwhelming and not to my personal style however below are some looks I think could redeem this trend.
Fashion news this year has been a rollercoaster, from the amazing Fashion Weeks to Margot Robbie's new era there was a lot going on. Margot Robbie's contract with Chanel ended this year and she made her debut at the Oscars in a stunning green Bottega Veneta dress unlike she worn before, with barbie coming out in 2023 we are sure to see more stunning and risky outfits. This years Fashion Week was unlike any other with the masterpiece being Coperni's spray on dress in Paris. This dress has transformed the boundaries of fashion combining them with science and innovation. In London there where dresses that distorted reality from JW Anderson and stylist ensembles from Molly Goddard a recent graduate from Central Saint Martins with fluid colour fits that draw you in, and I will be looking out for what she does in 2023. The Met Gala this year brought some memorable moments like Kim's Marilyn Monroe dress or some of the underwhelming outfits from that night.
There is no denying that 2022 has been a big year for fashion and one that may go down in history, and we will always look to the past for inspiration. However I am more exited to see what next year brings, more innovation, more designers and more personality. What are waiting for more this years Met Gala in the theme of Karl Lagerfeld or this years fashion weeks or maybe something else entirely, looking forward to what this year will bring.
